What if my house could be this warm all year round?

With summer here, insulating your walls may not be a hot topic for you to be thinking about. However, we all know that summer does not last forever and in no time the heating will be switching on again and we will be looking at the heating bills and wondering what we can do to reduce them. In the last few weeks I have been busy taking a look at wall insulation, both cavity and solid wall ready for our next Home Energy Improvers meeting. I have also been finding out about all the grants that are now in place to help us insulate our homes, it would be a shame not to take advantage of some of these!

My home has solid walls and sits within the conservation area which limits the options for wall insulation. However, I have been collecting samples and researching some of the newer insulation products that may give a breakthrough in insulating older properties and am beginning to feel more optimistic that technologies are there for improving the energy efficiency of our homes. Internal Insulation is a possibility and I have been looking round a house in Field Lane which has been internally insulated, you can meet the home owner and hear first hand how he has insulated his home at our Home Energy Improvers meeting.

Alumasc is a company that specialises in external wall insulation and they have been talking with North Herts Homes and the Heritage Foundation about a further trial of external wall insulation in Letchworth. We will have a representative from Alumasc at our meeting who will give us an update on their products and the work they are doing in Letchworth.

So come along and join us for an evening learning and sharing information on cavity and solid wall insulation on Monday 7th July, 7:30pm in the New Life Church, Mrs Howard Hall.
